I love the Mexican holiday dia de los muertos. For years I'e been celebrating it in S.F. where we paint our faces like catrinas, walk a processional, and visit alters with ofrendas.
It was really important to me on this trip to see dia de los muertos in a traditional setting, and I had heard that Patzcuaro is the place to be. Seeing that it is the place to be things get booked, and prices go up 400%, and I was afraid that I wouldn't make it or have a place to stay and my dreams would be crushed. But they weren't.
After meeting a guy in Ensenada that used www.couchsurfing.com while he traveled all over Europe I felt like I should check it out, and I'm glad I did. I meet this adorable artisan couple that sell their jewelry online , their business is called Rojo Pitaya.
Not only were they amazing, and sweet, but they lived in an adobe house in the country side with a cute puppy named Sito.
Lupita and Christop outside of their super rad house.

I've been a floral designer for 16 years, and while the decor is fabulous, I can't help but roll my eyes at all the work involved! This is the kind of event that would give me nightmares about my job.
